A non-toxic nail polish, made with a high percentage of natural ingredients and enriched with natural bamboo silica for strength.
A nail polish that uses mostly (75%+) natural ingredients to make a beautiful and effective nail polish that is kinder to you and the planet. Nail products are notorious for their high chemical content, the over-powering smell telling you everything you need to know about how toxic they are! It is nigh on impossible to find a totally natural alternative, but hopefully I have brought you the next best thing.
Zao are a French brand who are working hard to develop products with considerably fewer chemicals that those found on the high street (often 100% natural across their make-up range). Zao's nail polish range is palm-oil free, vegan certified and non toxic - they call it '10-Free', made without 10 of key chemicals found in regular off-the-shelf polish, like formaldehyde and benzophenone.
I am a twice-a-year when the sun shines, toe-nails only, nail polish wearer. On the other hand, my daughter and her friends love painting their nails! This gave me the nudge to find a healthier, more eco friendly alternative to standard high street nail polish. The colours had to be right too of course, and Zao offer a great range from which I have currently selected four colours.
Vegan certified, cruelty-free and made without petrochemical derivatives and synthetic preservatives.
About Zao Zao are a French brand co-founded by three nature-loving friends who are focussed on developing a range of cosmetic products with a drastically reduced impact on the environment. Much of their range is refillable (hopefully nail polish will follow) and they use natural and certified organic ingredients across their range, often at 100%.
Bamboo is a huge feature in both the packaging and the ingredients, used for its sustainability as a crop and huge versatility. In the polish, silica from bamboo is used to give it strength so that the polish doesn't chip as easily as other eco nail polish.
The products are mainly made in Italy (with some made in France).
Packaging and End of Life The nail polish is in a recyclable glass bottle with a bamboo lid. The brush is PET plastic, and as such can only be recycled with specialist companies. Zao are constantly improving their packaging, and I expect a refillable version to follow.
