An unbleached cotton bread bag designed specifically to hold a standard loaf, and generous enough in size to hold larger non standard loaves.
A single cotton bread bag with drawstring closure, designed to replace the disposable plastic bag and tag that your loaf from the baker's would normally arrive in. Just take your bread bag along with you and hand over the counter, and they will place your sliced or unsliced loaf inside. You can keep your bread inside the bag when placing in your bread bin. I like to add a piece of beeswax wrap over the end, to keep the loaf fresher for longer.
The cotton bread bag can also be used for all loose foodstuffs; like fruit and vegetables, rolls and pastries. The drawstring top prevents anything from falling out.
The bread bag is made of 100% natural undyed calico cotton with a light olive green drawstring. They are made for us in the UK by Teal and her husband, who sew the bags with care by hand.
Size: 33cm x 44cm (the larger of the two bags pictured in image 2).
Cool machine wash and air dry is best. Please expect some shrinkage as this is a natural material.
In the US, using your own produce bags is already a trend, and the bags are readily available to buy. It was surprisingly tough to find anything like this in the UK, and so I was thrilled to discover 'Do Your Bit' (thank you Instagram), a small company based in Northern Ireland, founded by Teal McCarthy. Another fantastic innovation to help us to do our bit for the environment.
'Superb craftsmanship, looking forward to using them & doing my bit!'
End of Life The bags will last for many years to come. As they are made from unbleached cotton, they are 100% biodegradable at end of life. Even better, you can place them into fabric recycling or cut into strips and use as kindling.
(A note on unbleached cotton - the pristine white colour often associated with fabric is very unnatural, and is often a result of bleaching and several other chemical processes. Hence our drawstring bags and bowl covers are an off-white/ cream colour).
